URBAN  ISSUES  SYMPOSIUM    -    Graduate Seminar
The Urban Issues Symposium is an interdisciplinary graduate level seminar that includes faculty and students across Washington University and St. Louis University in architecture, urban studies, art, social work, public policy, law, and public health. Through this course, students representing different disciplines develop a comprehensive response to calls for proposals from community groups and organizations seeking analyses and interventions to better address the social, environmental, and economic health of their communities. In addition to a design response, students prepare a comprehensive proposal that includes policy recommendations. This seminar is the second course in a 3-course series for design students focusing on publicly engaged practice. Design students enrolled in the series may take the Design/Build Studio in their third semester.
