JODI RIOS

The design-build studio is the third course in the 3-course series focusing on publicly engaged practice. A core group of students initially spends time in, and gains knowledge from, a local community in the Reconsidering the Margin Seminar. This core group goes on to identify and develop a design-build project with the same community in the Urban Issues Symposium. The following semester, the project is designed and built in the community in a design-build studio, which includes the same core group.

The project shown is a performance pavilion and shade structure serving a pocket park and playground in Pagedale, MO. Initial project design development and community engagement oversight and planning for the studio was carried out by Professor Jodi Rios. Final design and project construction were carried out and overseen by Professor Carl Safe.
